Serafina Finnegan is a 2025 mentee of The Writing Barn’s elite picture book writing program, a 2024 PBParty finalist, a 2023 mentee of the Rutgers University Council on Children’s Literature, and a two-time winner of the Raynor Wallace Award for Poetry. Her latest manuscript, THE STORYTELLER, was shortlisted for Searchlight Awards’ Best Picture Book Text of 2024.
Serafina writes moving, lyrical picture books which respect the complex inner lives of children. Her stories are filled with green hills, craggy mountains, snowy journeys, and castles made of moonlight. Her characters learn the power of cultural storytelling, the importance of generational memories, and find strengths they didn’t know they had.
Before writing for children, Serafina wrote for Power & Motoryacht magazine and the Journal of Empirical Research on Human Research Ethics.
A New York native, Serafina now writes and dreams in rural Virginia.
When not writing, Serafina is a very tired parent to three book-hungry little boys.
